ONE-DAY-IN.COM is the new portal for bloggs, news, history, travel diaries and upcoming events.
Posting articles is free of charge!
There are different ways of finding articles you might be interested in. You do not have to be a registered user to search articles in the ONE-DAY-IN.COM database. Just have a look at the main page. You will always get back to the main page by clicking the ONE-DAY-IN.COM logo in the upper left corner of each site.
On the main page, you will always see all the articles that are placed on ONE-DAY-IN.COM at the moment. Search fields for various search criteria make it easy for you to reduce the number of results. You can search for articles that contain certain keywords, are written by a certain user, in a certain language, belong to one or several categories, or concern a date or time period, reaching from dates B.C. (Before Christ) to dates in the future.
And you can, of course, zoom right in to the region you are interested in.
Please note, that there is no "search" button. This is not required, since all the search functions work automatically!
Once you are registered and logged in, just click on "Add article" in the upper right corner of the site.
Define a title, the category, the date or time period, the keywords and the language you are writing the article in. This will make it easier for other users to find exactly the article they are interested in.
Please note, that after saving the article, it might take up to five minutes, until your article or the changes you made appear on the map. Please be patient.
You can enlarge the text editor to full window size by clicking on the green arrow in the upper left corner and minimize it the same way.
The Xinha text editor offers you a large variety of editing tools. You can edit the font size and style and insert tables, hyperlinks and pictures. Please note, that inserting pictures works by using links to other pages. The picture will not be uploaded and might not always be visible in your article. For example, you might insert a picture you found in the Google picture search. Just copy and paste the link. Afterwards, you can edit the picture, add a border or resize it, so it fits your text.
Do not forget to choose a location on the map. Click on the small Google map beside your article.
A bigger map will open in a new window. You can zoom in and out and
choose the location, where your article shall be placed. Click on a
location to place the flag. Click the "Save" button to save the
location and close the window.
There are two ways of adding pictures to your
article. Firstly, you can insert pictures right in the text using the
text editor. Just click "Insert/Modify Image" in the text editor and insert a link to the picture you wish to add.
Secondly, you can add upp to four pictures to your article's gallery after having saved the article. These are pictures you upload from your computer.
Don't forget to enter a short description for each picture.
In the text editor, click on "Toggle HTML Source". The text, in case it's already written, will be shown in HTML style. Choose the position where you want to embed the movie and enter "<p></p>". Choose a video on Youtube. To the very right of the video, you will find a field called "Embed". Copy the code and paste it between the "<p>" and the "</p>" tag in your article's HTML code. Save the article. That's it.
If you would like to comment on an article you found on ONE-DAY-IN.COM, you need to be a registered user. Just open the article you want to comment and click on "Add comment". There is no text editor for the comments. You can attach up to four pictures to your comment in a new gallery.
Embedding the ONE-DAY-IN.COM widget on your homepage is as easy as embedding a Youtube video. Have a look at the NewsFlash example to see how the widget looks like. You can choose the position and the zoom level of the map when you are logged in. Just press the button "Save location as default" to the left of the map. You can also choose whether you want to display your articles only or all articles that are in the area. Then you just copy the code you find in your user profile and paste it in the HTML code of your homepage. It is that easy! New articles will automatically added to your widget. If you change the position or the zoom level of your map, these changes will automatically be made in the widget.
